During the Queensland Festival of Photography Curious Art Gallery as one of the participating venues will feature the photography of Michael Bryant in an exhibition titled the “The Hungry Ocean.”
Guest photography artist, Tracy Jay will also be showing selected pieces.
The body of photographic work chronicles the massive coastal erosion events affecting the tourist town of Kingscliff Beach from 2009-2011. Kingscliff is situated along the far north coast of NSW. Coastal erosion however is not a geographically isolated event.
“Backwash” by Michael Bryant captured at Kingscliff Beach during the coastal erosion during 2011.
“When the road fell into the ocean” by Tracy Jay captured at Kingscliff Beach during the coastal erosion events.
Entire communities on islands are being displaced such as the Pacific Island of Kiribati.
The future for Kiribati, one of the many low-lying Pacific nations threatened by rising seas, is so urgent that the government is considering relocating the entire population to man-made islands.
The exhibition aims to promote awareness of the local issue as a microcosm of global events. It will be exhibited in the main Gallery space of Curious Art Gallery
